Rangifers

We go way back, the Rangifers and my family. My great-grandfather was the one of the first to describe them to universal science, a few hundred years ago. Nowadays, they welcome off-world visitors to their well established cities, except one clan.
To tell it short, my great-grandfather and his assistant were caught in a white out blizzard. My great-grandfather’s assistant made a fire and then there was just blood and snow. As my great-grandfather tells it, he recoiled in horror as a naked, emaciated Rangifer, used his talons to pull his assistant by the throat into the icy squall. As the attacker retreated eleven others filed in behind him. They had been all around them the entire time.

The Rangifers are part of the the Polar chapter for my latest book - Astra Fauna: Expeditions.
